Dr. Joseph Jones Marlin, MD, PhD

Psychiatrist
Expertise:
Brain Health

Dr. Marlin is a board-certified psychiatrist who helps each Illumine patient develop insights into their personality structure and typical psychological defenses, a process that can improve professional and interpersonal functioning. His treatment approach considers relational, professional, and spiritual well-being; in addition to medication and psychotherapy, he also utilizes neurointerventional approaches such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to assist in the treatment of refractory illness.

Dr. Marlin is active in basic and translational laboratory research focused on synaptic plasticity in the brain and has published in leading academic journals including The Journal of Neuroscience and Neuron. He hopes to better understand how the brain adapts to an ever-shifting environment, and why this breaks down and causes people to get “stuck.” Dr. Marlin shares his home with a cat, Santiago Ramon y Cajal, named for the famous neuroanatomist.
